One thing visitors to Málaga comment on is the vibe, an energy always bubbling away beneath the surface. The last few months have been no different with the arts and sports bringing an extra verve to the province, and the underground getting not one but two new central stations.

Getting to Málaga has never been easier
With United Airlines re-introducing the Málaga to New York direct route from 31st May (three flights each way per week), and Montreal in Canada also now directly linked, it’s a great time for North Americans to savour Málaga and the Costa del Sol.
In total, there are 130 direct destinations now available by air. We hope to see many of you here, very soon!
Getting here via train has had a boost too, with Basque train company iryo opening new routes to and from the city to Córdoba, Madrid and Antequera.
Málaga Film Festival
Spanish film stars, producers and crew dropped into the city in March for the 26th edition of the Málaga Film Festival. The festival focuses on Spanish and Latin American talent, and the awards are Gold and Silver Biznagas – the biznaga being one of the symbols of Malaga.
The principal action takes place in the Teatro Cervantes. The Golden Biznaga for Spanish Film went to 20,000 Species of Bees.
Málaga Metro has two new central stations
Admittedly, it’s been a while coming but on March 27th two new Metro stations opened in the centre of Málaga. This means the trains which come in from Fuengirola and Alora, now go all the way into the centre, stopping at Guadalmedina (El Corte Ingles) and Atarazanas (Alameda Principal near Calle Larios).
On the first day, the metro broke previous records with 41,000 passengers. This is good news for all environmentally conscious travellers as it means less distance to wheel your cases when you arrive and depart!

Rafa Nadal Sports Club coming to Málaga
The Majorcan tennis star will open his second Spanish sports club in Málaga it was announced last week. The future Rafa Nadal Club will have a tennis club and high-performance sports equipment in which to develop a wide range of training programs and promotion of physical activity for all.
Included will be semi-covered clay courts, outdoor hard courts, several padel courts, a central court with stands to host sporting events, an outdoor pool and a multipurpose building with a fitness and crossfit area, sports shop, restaurant, spa and a museum dedicated to Rafael Nadal himself, among others.
