Tour Summary

Archidona and Antequera – Reconquered by the Christians in different generations, their combined histories are intertwined with the sagas, adventures, anecdotes and complicated allegiances of the Catholic Re-Conquest.

The tour takes in both towns ad the beautiful scenery between them as you uncover some of rural Andalucia’s best-kept secrets.

On the hill, overlooking Archidona is one of Andalucía´s oldest surviving Mosques, now a Christian chapel dedicated to the local patroness – Our Lady Of Grace. The views from the top are breathtaking. The town also has a very unusual square in octagonal form where we can observe typical Andalusian village life. Archidona has stood the test of time and remains entirely authentic.

On the neighbouring hill but separated by the legendary Lover´s Rock, or La Peña de los Enamorados, is the monumental town of Antequera; The Heart of Andalucia. Having gained UNESCO status for one of its historical sites, the town is alive and buzzing.

Here we can enjoy a wonderful lunch in a restaurant dedicated to reviving lost recipes of rural Andalucia after enjoying a gentle walking tour of the beautiful Old Town.

Reviews

★★★★★

This was our second time to tour with TOMA & COE, and once again they did not disappoint us. We did the Twin Olive Town Tour. We especially enjoyed visiting the small towns and not being surrounded by tourists… and learning more about the people and the culture.
