TOMA & COE’s Favourite Rural Restaurants in Andalucia

Andalucia is home to some fantastic eateries. While the cities have Michelin-stars and trendy tapas bars, the countryside has its own top-notch restaurants. These are the places where the produce is local, and the passion for food is undeniable.

Don’t think dining at a rural restaurant means you’ll be served a bowl of beans and chorizo. The Andalucian countryside and small towns are a haven for exquisite dining experiences.

Here are some of our favourite rural restaurants in Andalucia, each worth the journey.

Molino del Santo, Benaoján

After a short hiatus, Molino del Santo is set to reopen on 17th March under new ownership. It’s hard to think of a more picturesque setting for a restaurant: the terrace sits right next to a source of the river Guadiaro, along the historic Mr Henderson’s Railway route.

You can even arrive by train from Ronda or Algeciras on our Mr Henderson’s Railway tour, making the journey just as delightful as the destination. Expect top-notch cuisine in an unforgettable riverside setting.

Restaurante Casa Piolas, Algarinejo

For a truly extraordinary dining experience, head to Casa Piolas in Algarinejo in Granada province. The area is gorgeous with waterfalls, incredible rock formations and hillsides dotted with olive groves. This restaurant is famous for its tasting menus, where traditional Andalucian flavours meet innovative culinary techniques.

Every dish is a surprise, and the attention to detail is second to none. If you appreciate the artistry of food, this is a must-visit.

Yerbagűena, Campillos

Javi and his team have created something special at Yerbagűena. The balance between food, service, and wine here is impeccable. Javi himself is a highly respected figure in Andalucia’s wine and Sherry scene, and while he may not admit it, he’s something of a local celebrity.

Javi’s knowledge and passion for wine shine through in every pairing, lifting the dining experience to another level.

Candida, Alameda

Candida might have the most unexpected location of any restaurant on this list—an industrial estate on the outskirts of a small village. It’s not unknown for our guests to ask, “Why have you brought us HERE?” We tell them to wait until they get inside.

Once inside, all doubts vanish. The service, the quality of the produce, the extensive wine list, and the innovative menu make it one of the best value-for-money restaurants in Andalucia. Locals travel from up to 50km away to dine here, which says it all.

Arxiduna, Archidona

If you visit Arxiduna, there’s a good chance you could bump into TOMA’s founder, Manni Coe. This is a personal favourite of his, set within ancient caves and with a terrace on Plaza Ochavada in the heart of Archidona.

Their cuisine fuses tradition and innovation, preserving the original flavours with a modern touch. The menu has a mix of Arabic, Asian and Andalucian cuisine, reflecting the cultural heritage of Archidona. Arxiduna is as atmospheric as it is delicious.

Arte de Cozina, Antequera

Located in the heart of Antequera, Arete de Cozina is a must-visit for those who appreciate high-quality cuisine in a relaxed yet stylish setting. The restaurant blends contemporary culinary techniques with traditional Andalucian flavours, resulting in beautifully presented dishes that celebrate local ingredients.

The attention to detail, both in the kitchen and in the dining experience, makes this a standout spot for food lovers exploring the region.
