It’s not often the chance comes along to help out the BBC with the making of a new documentary, nor the chance to share our passion for Mr Henderson’s Railway with such a like-minded soul as Michael Portillo, but that’s exactly what we did earlier this year and we are so excited to finally be able to share the news!
Back in the Spring our Manni was invited to be a contributor to the new series of Michael Portillo’s “Great Continental Railway Journeys” as the production team flew over to explore the Andalusian railways and the fascinating heritage of the area that we are so passionate about here at Toma Tours.
Manni spent time filming with Michael as they talked about the area and enjoyed lunch in one of our favourite restaurants, Caserio Ananda.
Friends of Toma Tours will know about our love of the railway which runs through some of the most spectacular scenery in Andalusia.
What makes it even more special is the great skill and ingenuity that was needed to overcome the difficult terrain which the railway line has to navigate to get from almost sea level, up to Ronda at an altitude of 750m.
The railway has been a lifeline for the communities, businesses, restaurants, hotels, hiking routes and villages where we take our touring guests along the railway, and now you can see what it’s all about live on air!
On October 27th at 8pm UK time the programme will be shown on BBC2. With any luck we will see Manni meeting Michael to chat about the area and what it means to us here in Andalusia. The programme will also explore regular Toma destinations Cordoba and Seville, as well as Jerez, the location of our new Andalusian Wine Tour, as well as venturing into Gibraltar with stories of British Espionage.
Michael Portillo, who has a home in Seville, has been visiting the great railways of Europe for several years now while filming the Great Railway Journeys documentary series. Read more about the show on the BBC website here.
We are very excited indeed, so please help spread the word on Twitter by sharing this link, – just click to tweet.
We hope you can tune in, and we will be chatting abut the show live on our Facebook page too. See you there!
