Tour Summary
This is a private, six-day road trip through the inland landscapes of Andalucía, a region that most visitors fly over on their way to the coast, and that rewards those who slow down with some of the most dramatic and least-crowded scenery in southern Europe.
The route moves through the Málaga interior: from the spectacular gorge of El Chorro and the Caminito del Rey cliff path, into the Serranía de Ronda and the ancient market town of Ronda itself, through working farms and rural villages, and south to the extraordinary karst landscape of El Torcal Natural Park. Every night is spent in a carefully chosen rural hotel or boutique property, each with its own character and setting.
You travel in your own private vehicle, either a hire car arranged through us or with your own private driver. Our team is available throughout by phone, and your full itinerary pack includes restaurant recommendations, directions and day-by-day activity guidance.
This road trip suits travellers who want more from Andalucía than the city circuit. It is particularly well suited to couples and families with older children, small groups of friends, and anyone with an interest in food, landscape, wildlife or rural culture. The pace is genuinely relaxed; there is time built into every day to stop, explore and deviate.

Day-by-Day Itinerary Overview
Day 1 — Arrival in Málaga: The journey begins Arrive into Málaga — one of Andalucía’s best-connected airports, with direct flights from the UK, Europe and North America. Transfer to your first night’s accommodation in the Málaga countryside or the El Chorro area. This evening: dinner at a recommended local restaurant and a briefing on your route ahead.
Day 2 — El Chorro and the Caminito del Rey The morning begins at the Caminito del Rey — the 8km cliff path that traverses the walls of the El Chorro gorge, first built in the early 20th century to allow workers access to hydroelectric infrastructure and now one of the most extraordinary walks in Spain. The path reaches heights of 100 metres above the river below, with views across the gorge that stop conversation entirely. After the walk, head into the Serranía de Ronda through a landscape of limestone ridges, holm oak and cork.
Day 3 — Ronda and the Serranía Spend the morning in Ronda, one of Spain’s most visited towns, but one that rewards early arrival before the day-trip coaches arrive. The old town, the Puente Nuevo bridge above the 120-metre Tajo gorge, and the bullring (the oldest in Spain, dating to 1785) are the landmarks. In the afternoon, choose between a visit to a family-run boutique winery in the vine country outside Ronda, or a bird of prey experience with a professional falconer on a working rural estate.
Day 4 — Olive oil country and birdwatching Today’s drive moves through the olive-growing heartland of Málaga province. Visit a 19th-century working olive mill still producing oil by traditional methods, with a guided tasting. Alternatively, join a local ornithologist for a half-day birdwatching session in an area of outstanding natural habitat — the Serranía de Ronda is home to Griffon vultures, Bonelli’s eagles, black storks and numerous raptors. Overnight in a secluded rural property.
Day 5 — The Vía Verde and the countryside The Vía Verde del Aceite (“Olive Trail”) follows the route of a disused 19th-century railway built to transport olives from the Andalucían interior to Madrid. Now converted into a traffic-free cycling and walking route through magnificent countryside, it makes for one of the most memorable half-days in the region. Bikes are arranged and transferred to the start point. Alternatively, a guided hiking route through the sierra is available for those who prefer to stay on foot.
Day 6 — El Torcal and return to Málaga The final morning is spent in the Natural Park of El Torcal de Antequera, one of Europe’s finest examples of a karst landscape, where millions of years of erosion have created a plateau of sculpted limestone formations of an almost otherworldly appearance. Walking trails range from 45 minutes to three hours. Return to Málaga for onward travel.
There is scope for the itinerary to be amended to suit any personal preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Andalucía has a well-maintained road network and standard European driving conventions: left-hand drive vehicles, driving on the right. Roads in the rural interior are generally quiet and well-signposted. We provide full navigation guidance, app-based directions and a pre-trip route briefing for all self-drive guests. Mountain roads can be narrow and winding in some areas, but they are manageable with care.
The best months for this particular itinerary are March – May, October and November, when temperatures are comfortable for walking and outdoor activities (typically 18–24°C) and the landscape is at its most vivid. March can be beautiful with wildflowers across the sierra. Summer (July–September) is generally too hot for sustained outdoor activity inland, with temperatures regularly exceeding 35°C. December and January are mild and uncrowded, though some activities are weather-dependent.
Toll roads exist in Andalucía but are not required for this itinerary. Where toll roads are used, payment is by cash or card at staffed or automated booths; clear signage indicates which methods each booth accepts.
This itinerary accommodates a minimum of two guests and a maximum of 20, subject to accommodation availability. For larger groups, we recommend enquiring well in advance so that we can secure suitable rural properties. All tours are private, you will not share the experience with other groups.
Yes, and this is actively encouraged. The itinerary above is a framework, not a fixed schedule. If you want more time in Ronda, or prefer to add a flamenco evening, or have a particular interest in Andalucían food and wine that you’d like built into the route, we adjust accordingly. Speak to us when you enquire.
Five nights’ accommodation in handpicked rural properties; all activity bookings listed in your confirmed itinerary; full pre-trip documentation including route notes, restaurant recommendations and destination guides; 24-hour phone support throughout. Not included: flights, hire car costs, meals (except where specified), personal travel insurance.
Yes. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering medical expenses, cancellation and, if self-driving, supplementary vehicle cover. Spain has an excellent public healthcare system and EHIC/GHIC cards are accepted for EU and UK citizens respectively, but specialist travel insurance remains advisable.

Marivi at Toma and Coe planned the most amazing tour of Andalucia for us, including a cookery lesson, walking the Caminito del Rey, cycling the Via Verde, fantastic guides, flamenco, sherry tasting and dancing horses! All the hotels were in fantastic locations and very comfortable, the suggested restaurants were delicious and weather sunny. A fabulous trip.
